Welcome to 2020! Heading into a brand new decade, we’re so happy to see an influx of clean and eco-conscious beauty products showing up in the beauty industry. That’s because more and more eco and health-conscious customers like you are demanding clean, non-toxic, low-waste, cruelty and fragrance-free products. Well done!

Beware though: because a lot of the beauty industry is unregulated, many brands are capitalizing on the clean beauty “trend” by labelling their products as organic, all-natural, cruelty-free, vegan, clean and/or non-toxic when in fact...they aren’t! So be sure to seek out products that are transparent in their ingredient lists, and make sure to check those lists because your health and the health of the planet should be priorities.
Most importantly the fresh start of a decade means thinking of clean beauty beyond just what you put on your skin, but how you take care of yourself. Resolve to make self-care the foundation of your beauty routine in 2020. We firmly believe that true beauty comes from the inside out. It’s not just okay to take care of yourself, it’s smart. Here are a few self-care tips we’re all implementing this year to ensure we’re feeling radiant before we get glam.
1. Meditate!
Our busy, modern lives are rife with stress. Constant screen-time, deadlines and crazy work-loads wreak havoc on our bodies in terms of our cortisol levels, hormones and stress. By taking a minimum of five minutes every day to sit, unplug, close our eyes, breathe, ground ourselves does wonders to decrease stress and decreased stress makes for more radiant skin. If you’re new to meditation, there are many great mindfulness apps on the market to guide you.
2. You Are What You Eat.
We’ve all heard this a million times before, but it’s true: feeling great and looking great comes from what we decide to put in our bodies. Food is your friend: think of food as fuel and as preventative medicine. Try to make 75% of the food you consume to be plant-based. Why? Water and nutrient-rich leafy greens, vegetables and fruits hydrate your skin far better than just sipping on water and tea all day. Try to eat collagen-rich foods as well, as collagen is one of your skin’s best friends. We love Jennifer Myers’ simple and nutrition-based approach to beauty. This woman is thirty-frickin’-seven and she looks twenty-two. Worth watching!
3. Get Those ZZZZ’s!
Are you sacrificing your needed 8 hours of nightly rest in favour of late-night work sessions, too much Netflix or screentime? A fully rested body helps combat stress (which therefore helps your skin), it resets your brain and so much more. A fully-rested body is the best gift you can give to yourself and if that’s not enough of an incentive, know that a rested body helps you lose weight if that’s your jam!
Know what? Stop there. Having too many goals on your resolution list increases your chances of failure. Let’s work on seriously changing our habits so that these three tips become our way of life so fully that we do them without trying. Soon you’ll be feeling great and exuding a healthy glow from the inside out. And when it’s time to get glam, make sure the products you use reflect your commitment to being healthy and true to yourself.
